ZTERM

Dial-Up Networking is provided on Windows 95 and Windows NT. With the right communications server connected to the network, remote PCs can be connected via a modem or ISDN line to the network and access systems on the network as if the PC were directly wired to the network.

ZTERM 2000 can automatically dial into the network if the connection is not already open. This tab sets the dial-up networking configuration to use.

Additionally, the Dial-Up Networking can be used to automatically establish a VPN session between the PC and host system using the Internet as the communications backbone to the host system. This is achieved by installing Microsoft's VPN client software and VPN server on Windows NT Server and then configuring ZTERM 2000' dial-up networking to first dial to an Internet POP. Once the connection is made to the Internet, ZTERM 2000 can automatically launch the second dial-up connection which enables the encrypted VPN tunnel back to the server which then relays the data through the host system.

Use Dial-Up Networking: If you connect to a host via telnet and the host is on a remote network, this option allows ZTERM 2000 to automatically connect to the remote network if the link isn't already established. You will need to also provide a user name and password to log onto the remote network and additionally configure a phonebook entry to describe the Dial-Up Networking connection. If in doubt, check with your System Administrator.

Standard Connection: This option allows configuration of the either the connection to the remote network or a connection through an ISP to get the PC connected to the Internet.

VPN Connection: If this option is checked and the phonebook entry is set, ZTERM 2000 will dial the second connection after the standard connection has been connected. This option is almost always used to enable Microsoft's VPN adapter which allows secure connections back to the host system via the Internet using a Windows NT Server as the VPN server.

Phonebook entry: Select the phonebook entry used to connect to the communications server.

User Name: Enter the user name assigned to you to connect to the remote network with Dial-Up networking. This name may be different from other user names you use, so check with your System Administrator if in doubt.

Password: Enter the password assigned to you to connect to the remote network with Dial-Up networking. This password may be different from other passwords you use, so check with your System Administrator if in doubt.

Domain: If the remote network you're connecting to is based on Windows NT Server, enter the name of the domain your user name applies to. This will allow you full access rights to computers within the domain, subject to your security settings. If in doubt, leave this field blank or contact your System Administrator.

Properties: This button allows you to make changes to the currently selected phonebook entry.

New Entry...: Click this button to create a new Dial-Up Networking phonebook entry.

WinFAX Pro Option: When this button is checked and WinFAX Pro(tm) has been installed on the system, ZTERM 2000 will automatically shut-down WinFAX receive functions when ZTERM 2000 attempts to use a modem, either for direct modem connections or for Dial-Up Networking. When ZTERM 2000 has finished using the modem, WinFAX's receive function will be restored.
