If you've used a DOS based terminal emulator in the past, you may find that ZTERM 2000 is somewhat slower than what you're used to. This is normal with Windows applications because unlike DOS applications, they can't directly communicate with the display hardware.
With applications like ZTERM 2000, normally the system bottleneck is the graphics controller. You should:
• | Make sure you're NOT using the standard Microsoft VGA driver - if you are, replace it with the driver specifically written for your video card |
• | Consider purchasing a graphics accelerator designed for Windows |
• | Try to use AGP-bus or PCI-bus video cards - each time ZTERM 2000 scrolls the screen it has close to 256K of pixels to move from main memory to the video card - over a bus like ISA this can take a long time |
ZTERM 2000 itself is really a very fast program - on a 200MHz Pentium Pro system with a Matrox Millenium running Windows NT 4.0, ZTERM 2000 outperforms programs like AlphaLAN™/FW 6.x by about three times!
