Protecting the Configuration

Because different people use ZTERM 2000 in different ways, the process of configuring ZTERM 2000 correctly can take some time. In the same vein, someone "messing around" with the configuration can cause problems.

To protect the ZTERM 2000 configuration, the Options tab in the Configuration sheet contains an item called "Lock Configuration". When this option is selected, ZTERM 2000 asks for a password.

If you enter a password at this point, any further attempts to access the Configuration sheet prompt for the password. If the supplied password is incorrect, ZTERM 2000 will not allow access to the Configuration sheet. Note that the password is case sensitive.

If no password is entered, ZTERM 2000 will permanently lock the Configuration sheet and display the error "Your System Administrator has locked the Configuration menu". To re-enable the Configuration sheet you must edit the registry entry for the profile. Find the line that reads:

LockedConfiguration=1

and change it to:

LockedConfiguration=0

When the configuration is locked (either with or without a password), the user is also prohibited from changing the host name in the case of telnet connections or the phone number in the case of modem connections.

Locking the configuration also places the same restrictions on the User Buttons Setup utility.
