Hi all attendee's.
LuWayne and I are arriving late Fri the 3 (12:29) and staying at the Delta Montreal Hotel. Sightseeing through Tue. Leaving the following Sunday the 12.
Jack, Ty mentioned you are coming in Tuesday, are you staying a night in Montreal or going out to Three Rivers on Tuesday?
We have a small idea of going to Quebec City early Tuesday, stay there then on to Three Rivers on Wed. But that may not be worth the time for such a short stay in QC.
Any thoughts? When is everybody else showing up?
See you there.

Mona and I are arriving Tue afternoon and staying overnight at the Delta Montreal. As for visiting Quebec City, I do recommend it if you've never been. (One of the oldest cities in North American, picturesque, oozing history, etc.) You'd miss us in Montreal, but we'll see you in T.R. for the rest of the week. It's about 3 hours driving, and there is also a train which appears to have morning departures at 6:15 and 9 am which might be quite fun. For a day in Q.C. I would recommend visiting the Citadelle (only other walled/fortified city in North America besides Campeche Mexico) and just wandering around the old town center. If you have a car, stop at Montmorency Falls on the way back to T.R. and maybe take the gondola up and hike down. Otherwise you'll probably need to take the bus back to T.R. (because the train route bypasses it). Unless of course someone else is going that way...

I'm arriving in Montreal late Sunday, plan to spend Monday and Tuesday sight-seeing in Montreal, then go up to Trois Rivieres on Wednesday. Tom Reynolds from Omniledger is arriving Tuesday, I'll probably be with him on Tuesday and Wednesday. Will be at the Delta Montreal Sunday Oct 5th, Mon, Tues.
I'm taking Jack's advice to see Quebec City, but after the conference. Am going up Sunday Oct 12, staying Sun & Mon nights, then back to Montreal and to Boston on Tuesday.

Chris and I ski every year in a small town about 2 hours south of T.R. We have never seen Mont Sutton without snow. We plan to drive from home and stay with a friend in Sutton for a few days before coming up to the conference. We will get to T.R. Wednesday afternoon.

Sandy and I are driving from Montgomery. Our plan was to arrive in TR on Tuesday. After conference may be visiting Sandy's brother in New York. Would like to see downtown Quebec City after conference.

I was wondering about power and money. I looked up and it seems that Canadian power is the same as the US (sorry Steve). Can anyone confirm that? With Sandy and me driving, will we be able to get Canadian money after crossing the border or, by chance, are US dollars accepted?

Power and money? No mention of sex? (Herman you must be getting old!)
Canadian electricity is "standard" (i.e. follows the U.S. Standard), so no problem there except for people coming from "non-standard" regions.
Money, on the other hand, is "non-standard". Any Canadian in their right mind would be happy to accept US Dollars in exchange (which are worth about 10% more), but I can't guarantee that. Nowadays, the easiest way to acquire local currency is at an ATM. Ideally one that's doesn't charge you an ATM service fee, i.e. is in-network, or you have an account that reimburses you for such fees. There is also the currency conversion loss, but that will be less at an ATM than at any bank or money exchange booth.

Jack is absolutely right!... Canadian and US electricity use the same standards
ATM is an easy way to get Canadian money without being overcharged for conversion. As of today, the exchange rate is 1 USD for 1.097 CAD or 1 English Pound for 1.771 CAD... around 2% of the TRX should be the conversion cost.
Credit cards would probably be used 95% of the time anyway.
Any questions regarding sex???

From what we've seen of you in action at prior conferences, it's pretty clear none of us can teach you anything about sex!

I suppose I should mention that Herman has been in touch with me and Ken in private correspondence about whether the famous "Boys R Us" club we discovered in Porto has a branch in Trois Rivieres.

I made a reservation in TR for Sunday night also. Is anyone staying Sunday night? Also, is there a way to get to downtown Quebec City and back in a day without driving? Possibly go up to Quebec City on Sunday. My neighbor says downtown Quebec City is just like being in France except for the cars.

Herman (and all)-- Ken, his wife LuWayne and I are staying at the Delta Montreal on Sunday night, taking an all-day tour of Quebec City on Monday, then sight-seeing in Montreal on Tuesday. Various other folks are arriving in Montreal on Tuesday, we're planning to meet up with them and/or have dinner together. We'll all travel to Trois Rivieres on Wednesday, courtesy of our host Denis Giroux.
We'd love to have you and Sandy join us for any or all activities, Herman, but you would have to come to Montreal instead of Trois Rivieres. I imagine it would be no big deal to move your hotel reservation from TR to Montreal, since it's the same hotel chain. Please consider that if it sounds good to you.
I've already checked with the tour company, and NO, they will not stop in Trois Rivieres and pick you up (on the bus that Ken, LuWayne and I will be on). Perhaps there's a Quebec City round-trip tour from TR, I haven't checked into that.

Thank you Ty. This is the Sunday before the conference, not the Sunday after the conference? Also this is a tour to Quebec CIty with transportation that I would need to sign up for? I had not planned on coming early, but was staying late. I'll have to rethink my plans. We have a family birthday (our family is big on birthdays) on the Friday before that Sunday, so would not give us time to drive from LA. I'll talk to Sandy about this again.

Herman, I'm sure our gracious host, tour guide and conference director general Mr. Denis Giroux will have ideas or suggestions about getting to/from Quebec City on your schedule.

If nothing else, you can definitely go by bus . The trip takes just under 2 hours each way, costs about $50/pp round trip, and there are several departure times throughout the day. Plus, I think the station is practically next door to the Delta Trois-Rivières.

Jack is absolutely right!... The bus station IS next door to the Delta Trois-Rivières. You could leave Trois-Rivières at 8h35AM and arrive at 10h25 AM in Québec city... and come back to TR at 22h10 (10h10PM) by leaving Québec city at 20h20 (8h20PM).

Yes Herman, you would be arriving downtown but a little on the outskirt. A 10 minute walk should bring you right in the middle of lower downtown, and after visiting you could walk to upper downtown. Here is a link where you will be arriving with the bus. Bus Station downtown

Herman, if you decide to go directly to the Château Frontenac from the bus station, it is only a 13 minute walk Route to Château Frontenac

Thanks again, Denis. We are still trying to see if we can get away with coming early before the conference and crashing the party. That would be my preference. I'm not very good in unfamiliar territory.

I haven't had my tapioca since I left Montgomery! Bedtime has been pushed a little...like 8pm. I can hardly stay awake the next day.
