There was a combined installer of ATE 5.1.1175.6 and PDFX. This makes it much easier to have/allow customer's to install ATE on their own.

As it stands, I have to install the 5.1 version, and then a 6.2 version new enough to make a connection the server to finally be updated to our current release.

Would it be possible to get a new version of this?

Ok, I posted a combined ATE-PDFX installer if you want to try it:

ate-6.4.1548.7-pdfx-6.0.321-web.exe

Note:

- This is actually a later version of the PDFX printer driver than has been previously posted (6.0.321.0 vs 5.5.312.1). As far as I've been able to tell, it's fully compatible with the 5.5 version, but...

- The default printer name has changed from PDF-XChange Printer 2012 to PDF-XChange Standard V6.

- The PDFX installer always says that a reboot is needed. As far as I can tell, it is not needed for an initial simple installation, but if you then remove it manually you may have trouble reinstalling until a reboot is done. (This is a bit of an annoyance.)

- The ATE installer is not smart enough to determine in advance if the PDFX driver is up to date, so it always launches the PDFX installer.

- It does save the installer exe in the %ATE%\atesetup directory (where the Check-For-Updates routine also downloads/saves the standard ATE update installers). This is convenient for testing since it eliminates the need to re-download the 6MB installer module, but it's not clear if it's a great strategy for production.

Carl would like an ATE/PDFX installer for Harris Baking. The original one you created automatically setup a profile for them.

It's getting to the point where maintaining install packages is becoming a bigger job than maintaining the actual products! :rolleyes:

But, if you insist, send me an exported copy of the desired configuration and any relevant comments about differences between the standard version and/or prior custom version and the desired new one.

Just inquiring... is it possible to still have an ATE / PDFX build? Since our new update also uses pdfx this would be a great 2 for the price is one.. plus could always generate future sales for pdfx if it is sitting out there and the customer asks what is this new fangled software that loaded...

PS: PDFX order pending... that should help soften the edges a bit

Ok, let me try putting that together. The same issue noted above remains though - the ATE installer can't tell if the PDFX driver is up to date, so it's always going to want to launch it. Unless you want to base it on the existence of some file that we add to the new package to indicate that it thinks it installed PDFX. In that case, if you really did want to re-run the PDFX install, I guess you could either remove the special file, or do a manual PDFX install.

I'm still trying to think of the best way to deploy the updated ATE with PDX. Would this combined install work with the HELP>CHECK FOR UPDATES feature?

Or would we put the entire install package on our website and just point the customer to it and have them install from there?

You can configure the Help > Check For Updates to look anywhere for the package; probably the ideal is for you to point it to your own server. The mechanism doesn't know what's in the package, so certainly it works with a combined package.

And you have the option of one huge download (ATE is about 26MB by itself, plus another 6 for PDFX), or the incremental approach, which is more responsive and in most cases much faster overall because you don't necessarily need to update every single file in the package. I generally recommend the incremental model in conjunction with the Check For Updates because a long delay in the big download may cause people to wonder what happened. (That's less likely to be a problem if they have to explicitly go and click on a link in the browser.)

Here's a standard ATE 6.5 + PDFX5 install package if you want to try it out (manually - not via the check for update). Note that it does warn you that you need to reboot (although I haven't found that to be necessary, and certainly not if you're just updating). We can tweak/customize it for your specific situation after a little experimentation.
