Good day -

As my pc is now nagging me to update to W11 it occurred to me that haven't seen any posts here from the "bleeding edge" group re Windows-11 compatibility... either from the ashell/windows or ATE side.

Has there been any testing at the lab on W11 yet? Has anyone installed it yet and had a play? And no - i am not volunteering wink

Not only that, but this is your golden chance to become an A-Shell celebrity, earning the admiration and appreciation of your peers all over the world. And maybe even preferential seating at the next Conference.

Personally I was hoping that if we ignored it long enough, it would just go the way of New Coke or Quibby TV. Either that or our licensing department would come up with a way of making A-Shell/W11 updates really profitable. (Too early to tell on either of those.)

If you decide to take advantage of this golden opportunity, I'll be happy to supply you with A-Shell Pioneer Edition beta copies on a steady basis. In the meantime, I'll set up a Windows 11 machine in our containment facility to prepare for your call.

As it appears there are no volunteers, I finally summonsed the courage and surmounted the various technical obstacles and now have Windows 11 Pro running in a VWware virtual machine. (This was a clean install, not an upgrade from a Windows 10 machine.)

A-Shell/Windows 6.5 and ATE 6.5 installed and appear to run without any noticeable issues.

I'm not sure I would have the nerve to upgrade my primary workstation though.

We have a couple of machines testing Windows 11 with no reported issues. These aren't daily driver machines though, so they may not be used enough to find the edge cases.

If that's what you were hoping for, you're going to be disappointed. At least with the standard theme, the dialog gray background hasn't changed, but they did go back to the retro(?) rounded corners. Regular buttons however have gotten whiter, while radio buttons and checkboxes are now blue...

Thanks for the example.

Apparently the engineers have run out of ideas... as with most other things which are reverting back to the previous century.

No - no real requirements on the theme as that has been the ongoing "joke" that all they do is lighten the shade of grey/white with each iteration... guess they have run out of options in the visible spectrum.

Stephen - thanks for the real world update. I would have to presume that some of our hundreds of end users have either purchased a w11 box or got conned into pressing the pretty UPGRADE NOW button. Either way we have had no reports positive or negative... but if we have any feedback at all will post here.
