Spooler Printing with Telnet connections and LPD

Top  Previous  Next

If ZTERM 2000 is connecting to the host via a telnet connection, ZTERM can automatically start an LPD service that allows spooler output to be printed onto the PC printer without interrupting the telnet session.

Configuring the LPD spooler

Go to the Printer tab in the Configuration screen
Enable the LPD service by checking the Enable button. Set the name of the queue to anything you want; the default of PASSTHROUGH is perfectly acceptable
On the AMOS host configure the LPR service by editing the TCP:LPR. file and pointing the spooler at the TLP0: device. See your AlphaTCP Administrator's Guide for information on configuring the LPR service.

Using the LPD spooler

The LPD service in ZTERM 2000 will accept print files from the host system and then pass them either through ZTERM's dot-matrix emulator or direct to the serial port, depending on how ZTERM 2000 is configured.

Note that only one instance of ZTERM 2000 can be running the LPD service at any one time - the one that's running LPD service will display a printer icon on the statusbar.
